What is Secure Minds?

Secure Minds is a National Lottery funded project aiming to support new and expectant parents with their emotional wellbeing and support parent-infant relationships.

We are pleased to be working in partnership with Home-Start North East Worcestershire to deliver the project.

As part of Secure Minds, we will be offering the following interventions:

  • Circle of Security Parenting Group

  • Individual therapy sessions

Circle of Security Group

The Circle of Security is an 8 week group programme for parents of pre-school children. Parents usually come to this group when there is a concern about the child's emotional and/or behavioural development, or where the bond between the parent and child has been disrupted in some way.

The group helps parents to:

  • Understand their child's emotional world by learning to read emotional needs;

  • Support their child's ability to manage emotions;

  • Enhance their child's self-esteem;

  • Understand their child's desire to be in a secure relationship with their parents.

There will be up to 8 parents in the group, both mums and dads can attend. The group will last for 1.5 hours and there will be a creche available if required. The group uses videos to explain some concepts, and there is plenty of time for talking and reflecting too. The group is run by a Clinical Psychologist, plus a co-facilitator.

Individual Therapy Sessions

Many parents struggle with the transition to parenthood for a wide variety of reasons, and having a safe space to explore and understand this can be invaluable. We know that working with parents can make a difference for the whole family.

What to expect: We will meet you at The Old Needle Works where we have a comfortable room to work psychologically with parents. At the first appointment you will meet with one of our Clinical Psychologists. We will spend time thinking about what has brought you to therapy, gather some background information and then make a plan together.

There is no set number of sessions - we will work out together what best suits you. As Clinical Psychologists, we draw on various psychological therapies and models to work with our clients as individuals. Psychological therapy sessions last for 50-60 minutes.

 If you are struggling with the journey to parenthood and would like some psychological therapy, please get in touch with Home-Start North East Worcestershire (links below).
